Dokhuset Jazz Club

Our first glimpse of where our final concert will be. This was taken on one of our first days here. It looked quite different today, the day before our departure, as we've been having sunny days.

Dans

Next we walked over to the performance center for a dance performance by Trondertun students.

Can't get tired of views like this!

More from dinner

Even more!!!!

Folk art at dinner

Just feast your eyes!  There is so much to see in this restaurant it amazed me!

Vintage laundry hanging as art in the courtyard.

Dinner out- part 2

Our lovely table at Baklandet Skydsstation

Oops, Ronald forgot to call Berit earlier to tell her where and when to meet is.

Ronald tries to appear stern.  He will often go all serious-faced, begin to tell what we think is a serious story and then have us laughing in the end.

  The former King Olav.

Dinner out

Benedicte and I went swimming at the pool in Trondheim. Then we met up with Terry for some speed shopping at a thrift shop. More on that later. Then we met Ronald and Berit for dinner at the most charming restaurant.   Baklandet Skydsstation is a former home for unwed mothers. It is now decorated in vintage furnishings and Norwegian folk arts and crafts. It is a must-see place and the fish soup is delicious.  They also serve reindeer for the more adventurous eaters.

  Fish soup. Yum!!

Ronald at his best. He is such a kind, generous
and funny man. In fact, one never knows if Ronald is telling the truth or pulling one's leg!!  It has been both a pleasure and an honor to get to know him and Berit both.

Trondertun photos

The sign on the drive up to the school

Some past students organized a mafia theme night. Ronald is at bottom left, Bjornar  at top right. The picture hangs in the teacher's lounge.

The old wood stove in the teacher's lounge.

Trondertun opened in 1919 but the new (current) main building, as seen in this painting in Ronald's office, was built a few years later.

Tautra scenes

Just gorgeous!  We could not have asked for better weather for our fjord rafting adventure.

We saw a few cod skeletons in the field.  Probably dropped by a seabird.

The snow-covered mountains in the far background are in Sweden.

Tautra ruins

A quaint decoration in the dining room at Tautra.

Ruins of the old monastery for nuns at Tautra. The new monastery is elsewhere on the island.

Here comes Justin, back from a trip rounding up students for the boat ride back to Trondheim. I have to say that all the kids have been a pleasure to travel with. I knew some of them before the trip, but I t's been fun getting to know them all a bit more. What an amazing life experience this has been for all of us. You should all pat yourselves on the back for encouraging your children's musical interests and for raising such great people!
